Halfway Point

Tony mixing

Being the nerd that I am, I keep a spreadsheet to track the progress of recording the album. As I reviewed it the other day, I realized we're exactly 50% done.

Well, maybe "exactly" isn't the right word for it. 50% is a pretty rough estimate, especially considering all the things that go into making an album like mixing, mastering, duplication, distribution, promotion, etc., but at least there's some progress being made.

Granted, it's taken us close to a decade to get to this point (G n R anyone?), but I'm hopeful that the next 50% will be a matter of months rather than years. For the most of those years, we were in the seemingly endless cycle of writing/demo-ing/doing nothing/doing nothing/doing nothing/re-demoing/doing nothing/doing nothing/recording/doing nothing/doing nothing/re-recording/writing. Starting to see a pattern?

But now most of the drum and bass tracks are done, and the bulk of the guitar tracks should be done by the end of March. Which then leaves vocals and mixing and the rest of the items listed above.

I'm not going to do anything crazy like predict when we'll be done because anything can happen but things are certainly moving along and we hope to have some new music ready for you soon.

Stay tuned!

From The Archives: Nightclub Jitters

This cover of The Replacements' classic "Nightclub Jitters" is not technically Snap Infraction but it's close enough personnel-wise.

Back in 1999/2000, I was in a band called LemonLime with my brother (among others). Our label was putting together a Replacements tribute CD, so we chose "Nightclub Jitters." For whatever reason, we never made it on the CD (I think I forgot to send in our track in time), so here it is.

Steve - vox, piano, guitar, drums, fingersnaps
Bob - bass, fingersnaps
Tony - engineering and mixing

Many years later I met Paul Westerberg. I forgot to give him a copy of this track, but did manage a photo.

15 Years Worth

Sun, 01/22/2012 - 23:39 -- steve

Today we cut drum tracks for the oldest and newest Snap Infraction songs. The first track was "The Historian", which was written all of 8 days ago. As I mention in the video below, today marks the 2nd time we've recorded the song, except for me it was actually the 3rd time, the first being the demo which I recorded last Sunday (1/15).

The second song we cut was "The Fall", which was written all of 15 years ago (or more). I first recorded this with LemonLime, one of my former bands, in 1999 but those sessions never ended up seeing the light of day so we're going to include it on the Snap album.

Enjoy!
